The investigation of the Pan / Tilt mechanisms?
Looking to add a remote pan / tilt unit to be used in conjunction with a tripod or end of a camera crane. Video cameras can be as light as a consumer Sony HDR-HC1 (about 2 pounds) and perhaps a little heavier than HDR-FX1 (about 5 pounds). If I add a battery and a microphone, high capacity, weights are approximately pound us. I found the unit for about MP101 Bescor $ 125 and Jony and others for $ 1400 and above (step at a time, Cambo, Vinten, Barber Tech and several others). The Bescor can easily cope with the HC1, but it's just the edge with the weight of the FX1. I can not find something in the order $ 500 – $ 1,000 over which to feel comfortable with putting my FX1 (or semi-professional camcorder or a similar weight). Suggestions?
I have a Bescor which has no model number, but must be the same. It is rated for 6 pounds. Me with a video camera Panasonic WV-type D5000 without problems. I think it would be roughly the same size and weight class as the FX1. The weight of the camera is not as important as the balance and center of gravity. The Bescor was originally developed for cameras with a CG that is much larger than the modern equivalent of the digital camera so I think the number of 6 pounds is very conservative.
